Once the seeds have reached complete dryness, it’s time to store them. Put the seeds in a paper envelope, plastic or glass container, or even repurpose an old seed packet. Be sure to label the seeds with the variety and the date you collected them.

Put the seeds in a sealed plastic baggie or a glass container for extended storage.
Store the seeds in a cool, dark location for long-term preservation. An excellent spot would be the back of a refrigerator or a dry, cool basement. Avoid placing them in a freezer. Under optimal conditions, these seeds will remain viable for up to 3 years.
However, it’s advisable to save fresh seeds every year for use in the following year. The fresher the seeds, the better their germination and performance. By preserving the seeds from your open-pollinated pepper plants now, you’re not only saving money but also guaranteeing a bountiful yield of robust and productive pepper plants next year!
